The betting boom in Africa is being largely fueled by mobile technology, creating a unique market dynamic.
A report from 2025 indicates that an overwhelming 91% of African bettors place their wagers using a mobile phone. This is possible because of the widespread adoption of mobile money services, which have bypassed the need for traditional banking and allow instant, low-stakes "micro-gambling". As a result, markets in East Africa, such as Kenya (79% participation) and Uganda (87% participation), show some of the highest engagement rates on the continent
